Where these numbers come from

Every figure on these pages is published by the federal government. We match it to places and show it unchanged.

How places are matched

A ZIP code can cross county or town lines. Each ZIP page lists every county or town it touches, in alphabetical order, and every HUD rent area it falls in. Where a ZIP code is not a Census ZIP Code Tabulation Area, it keeps the rent area HUD assigns it.

Where a ZIP page shows a difference between the ZIP's figure and the whole area's, this site calculated it by subtracting the two HUD figures; the yearly amount is that monthly difference times 12.

What is not on these pages

Tax-credit rent and income limits, HUD's Section 8 income limits and each agency's exact payment standard for a ZIP code are available in the Rent Limits API.

These are published government figures, shown as measurements. They are not legal, tax or financial advice. If a figure here and an official document disagree, the official document governs.
